features

Myrcia neocambessedeana was a woody plant of unknown height. The young twigs, the leaves, the flowers and the buds were hairy rusty red. The opposite and almost seated leaves were divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole was 1.3 mm long. The paper-like leaf blade was 88 to 97 mm long and 20.3 to 22.6 mm wide, ovate-lanceolate with a gradually pointed upper end. The marginal edge of the leaf, which was hardly bent, was ciliated and covered with isolated, transparent spots. The upper side of the leaf was bare, the underside of the leaf sparsely hairy. The midrib was indented on the upper side of the leaf, protruding on the underside of the leaf and covered with dense curry hair.

The flowers were arranged in 50.8 mm long, racemose inflorescences. The erect, hairy flower buds were 4.5 mm long. The sepals were pointed-lanceolate. The four ovoid ovaries were bicameral. The stylus was 6.8 mm long.

The flowering time was in December.

status

Myrcia neocambessedeana is only known from two flowering branches from the collection of the botanist Karl Beyrich from 1825. The species was discovered in a forest near Santa Anna in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. In 1998 the IUCN added it to the Red List of Extinct Plant Species.

Systematics

In 1857 Otto Karl Berg described this species under the name Gomidesia cambessedesiana in the Flora Brasiliensis by Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius . In 2010, the genus Gomidesia was synonymous with the genus Myrcia and this taxon was renamed Myrcia neocambessedeana E. Lucas & Sobral .
