Myrkskog is a Norwegian metal band that has moved between the genres of death metal and black metal in the course of its existence .

biography

The band was formed in 1993 as a black metal band. In May 1994, drummer Lars Petter left the band. He was replaced by Bjørn Thomas the following month. Myrkskog enjoyed a good response from the audience, however, towards the end of 1994 there were disputes between the members, so it was decided to take a break. In January 1995, however, the band came together again, with Thor Anders “Destructhor” Myhren and Kenneth “Master V” Lindberg taking on leadership positions. On May 8, 1995, the first demo recording was finally completed, which was called Ode til Norge , but a drum computer had to replace the drums.

In 1997 the current drummer Tony "Sechtdaemon" Ingebrigtsen joined, whose aggressive style directed Myrkskog towards Death Metal. In May 1998 the demo Apocalyptic Psychotica - The Murder Tape was recorded .

After the release of this second demo, some record labels became interested in the band, but ultimately only Candlelight Records remained, with which the band's first record deal came about. In the period from June to September 1999, the first studio album Deathmachine was recorded, the release of which was followed by a tour through Europe. Once again the band enjoyed a positive response at their concerts . A stylistic change put up for discussion, however, caused renewed disputes and culminated in the departure of Lindberg and Forwald; The latter founded the black metal band Disiplin .

In the autumn of 2001, the two remaining members contacted the bassist Demariel, who believed his ability at the extreme speed that the band had achieved in the meantime. Demariel agreed and renamed himself to Gortheon in Myrkskog's favor, as he thought that name was more appropriate. In addition to the guitar, Myrhen now also took on the vocals, so that nothing stood in the way of the planned change of style and the continuation of the band. In April 2002 the recording of the second studio album, Superior Massacre , began, which was released across Europe in August.

style

Myrkskog plays a consistently fast form of Death Metal, the style is almost exclusively brutal and extremely aggressive. At the beginning, the band was touted by their label Candlelight Records as a "remarkable new release of high-speed metal". Until the album Deathmachine , keyboards in the typical Black Metal style were occasionally used, the band was also compared to Immortal , Emperor and Dark Funeral .
