occupation

Karate Tiger 2 is a martial arts action film from 1987 and the second part of the English-language original "No Retreat, No Surrender" film series. The German title Karate Tiger 2 is only used for better marketing, but leads to a title-and-sequel confusion . It was again directed by Corey Yuen . The plot has nothing in common with the first part . The actors are also different.

action

Scott Wylde travels from the United States to Bangkok , Thailand to visit his fiancée Sulin and friend Mac Jarvis. However, shortly after the first meeting, Sulin, whose father is an influential person, is kidnapped. Together with Mac and the helicopter pilot Terry, Scott goes on a search. They learn that Sulin is being held in a training camp in Cambodia.

On the way there, you will face a multitude of opponents. Even monks who seem hospitable at first turn out to be supporters of the opposing side who want to take the three prisoners. Scott and Mac escape, as does Terry at first, but they are finally caught up and put on a boat unnoticed. When Scott and Mac see the departing boat, they think Terry would flee without them. When the boat turns around and is fired at them with a machine gun and a bazooka , they realize the situation and run back towards the monks' site. There they find out that the real monks are tied up and locked in a weapons room. They equip themselves with rifles and hand grenades and work their way up to the training camp, to which Terry has now also been brought.

When the goal is reached, there are fierce firefights. Sulin and Terry are tied up over a crocodile pit and threaten to fall into it. Mac can finally free them both. When Scott runs to them, he is shot at with a submachine gun by the Soviet Colonel Yuri. Terry recognizes this and pushes him aside at the last second, but is hit himself. It comes to the final duel between Juri and Scott. Meanwhile, Mac takes care of the badly wounded Terry. In the course of the fight, Scott finally manages to wrap Juri in a hut with a large flag hanging on the wall and loop a rope around his neck. He ties the other end to an off-road vehicle, drives off and pulls Yuri across the camp and into the crocodile pit. After Scott accidentally rammed a wooden stake, the engine cuts out and won't start. Juri tries to pull the car with Scott into the pit to join him. However, he opens the tank cap, jumps off at the last moment and then fires a machine gun shot into the pit, which causes the tank to explode.

Mac carries Terry in his arms. In the original version she died, but in the German version he says: "She will get through."

criticism

The lexicon of international film ruled that the film was a "reactionary action spectacle of almost grotesquely adventurous proportions."

Frames

In Germany, the Ascot Elite distribution network only had a clearly shortened version (over 10 minutes) on both VHS video and DVD . In addition to many violent scenes, the synchronization has also been partially defused (see plot). In addition, the film's credits are missing; only "END" is displayed.

Since 2018, Punch Productions has officially offered an "uncut version", also called this, with a length of 106 minutes and FSK 18. This version contains all the scenes that were missing in previous versions. Since this affects not only fight scenes, but also some game scenes, these are only available in the original language with German subtitles. The DVD version also contains both the German trailer "Karate Tiger 2" and the very different original trailer for "Raging thunder".

Others

  • Curiously, the cover of the first German DVD release comes from the title motif of the film Im Stranglehold of the Red Cobra (1981) by UFA -Video.
  • Soundtrack : Text and vocals for the theme song Everywhere With You are by Lisa Donovan Lukas.
