Mystigma is a German dark rock / gothic rock / metal band from Osnabrück , which was known under the name Tears of Mystigma until 2005 .

history

Mystigma was founded in 1993 (then still under the name Tears of Mystigma ) by the singer Torsten Bäumer, the guitarist Clemens Leugers and the drummer Guido Lüttmann. After the first musical attempts and various line-up changes, a permanent line-up emerged in 1994. Jörg Bäumer, Torsten Bäumer's younger brother, and Stephan Richter joined the band.

With this line-up, the band recorded their first demo, Caressing Mystigma , which at the time was only available on cassette. In 1997 the first EP titled The Vanishing Sun .

The desire for more facets in their music led to the band being strengthened in 1998 by keyboardist Gunter Wißmann. In the following year Jens Meier replaced the first drummer G. Lüttmann. In 2000 the band released their first full album Reflect Project: Colder Side on their own. In 2002 an EP with the title Higher Circumstance followed . Shortly before the release, Gunter Wißmann got out, but still played the keyboards on two tracks on Higher Circumstance .

In 2005 the name was changed to the simpler Mystigma. The band signed a contract with Equinoxe Records, where u. a. The House of Usher were under contract and later z. B. Mental Defect was to follow and released the album Universal Surrender . Several concerts at festivals followed to promote the album, such as B. the Wave-Gotik-Treffen . Mystigma also did club gigs and support shows for Das Ich .

At the end of 2005, drummer Jens Meier left the band and was replaced by Gordon M. Zagon in 2006. A demo was recorded, from which a few years later the song I Don't Need You was set as a download on various portals.

In 2007, the collaboration with Gordon M. Zagon ended, after which the previous drummer Jens Meier rejoined the band. At the same time, guitarist Clemens Leugers announced his departure that same year. The band was now working on new songs as a quartet. Another collaboration with Equinoxe Records did not materialize, so that Mystigma finally signed a contract with Echozone . In 2010 she released the album Andagony . This was followed by concerts with, among others, Zeraphine and Tunes of Dawn.

Drummer Jens Meier left the band again at the end of 2011. Supported by a guest musician on drums, the band began recording a new album in autumn 2011. In spring 2012 the band announced the arrival of drummer Malte Hagedorn.

In March 2013 the album Unzerbrechlich was released, in spring 2014 the EP Gottlos was released .

In March 2016 Mystigma presented a video for the song Diva Armageddon as a harbinger of the album Schattenboten , which was released in April 2016.

On the 2018 album Unter Wölfen , the band worked with cellist Bennie Cellini ( last instance ), who played the cello on three pieces.

style

While Mystigma was still heavily influenced by melodic Death Metal and bands like Dark Millennium at the beginning , they tried to weave keyboards and melodic vocal lines into their music for the first time on The Vanishing Sun. Bands like Paradise Lost and Tiamat were one of their greatest musical influences at the time.

Today the band is generally assigned to Dark Rock , whereby influences of Gothic Metal and Gothic Rock can also be seen in the songs of Mystigma .
