Néstor García (athlete)

Néstor García , full name Néstor Ariel García Rivero , (born July 6, 1975 ) is a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

The 1.69 meter tall García competes in the running disciplines on the long distance or in the marathon. At the Junior World Championships in Lisbon in 1994 , he finished 22nd in the 10,000 meter run . He took part in the World Athletics Championships in 1997 on the 5,000-meter course , but failed in the preliminary run. He was also part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1998 South American Games in Cuenca . In Winnipeg he reached 6th place over 10,000 meters in the 1999 Pan American Games . That year he set his personal best with a time of 2:12:48 hours on the marathon course. In this discipline he also started as a member of the Uruguayan Olympic team at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . In the final ranking, he finished 46th. In December of that year he won the Buenos Aires Marathon .

Even today (as of June 15, 2015) García is still the holder of the Uruguayan national records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter distances as well as in the half marathon and in the marathon.
