Nītaure ( German Nitau ) is a place in Latvia and is located about 70 km northeast of Riga . The Gulf of Riga is about 50 km to the northwest.
history
In 1277 a castle of the Livonian Order was built here, which fell into disrepair in the 17th century. The present-day town emerged in the second half of the 19th century when the owner of the local property distributed building lots. In 1897 Nītaure had 560 inhabitants, in 2007 there were 450.
