N-Factor was a hip-hop / crossover band from Bielefeld . The band is one of the pioneers of German crossover and German hip-hop / rap .

history

N-Factor was founded in 1988 by Skinny T (real: Tonio Neuhaus) and Wally "Fury" B (real: Wale Bakare). Later, Rosy Rose (civil: Torsten Rosendahl), Xanu (civil: Xanu Senckel) and MC Pacman (civil: Lanre Bakare) were added before N-Factor was signed by Ariola . After two singles , the debut album Vibes from No Go Area was released in 1990 . The song Rebelz in Rythm also appeared on the compilation Krauts with Attitude , which is considered the first German hip-hop sampler. The N-Factor concert on February 19, 1991 in Cologne's Live Music Hall was recorded by Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln and broadcast on television as part of the Rockpalast program. Together with producer Bill Laswell , the band worked on their second album, Paradigmashift , which was released in 1992 and produced two singles. After numerous concerts, the band withdrew to Portugal for some time (including to Manfred “Manne” Praeker's MAD MIX studio) before the third and final album Winter was released in Germany in April 1994 . The title is an allusion to the changed political climate in Germany such as B. the increasing racism . A short time after publication, N-Factors dissolved.

style

The band mixed hip hop music with sampling and elements of rock music . The band included a guitarist , a bassist , a drummer and a keyboardist . According to Fritz Loch from the German magazine Rock Hard, “N-Factor consumed every imaginable style, from raggamuffin to jazz and funk to metal ”. With their last album Winter in Germany , N-Factor said goodbye to sampling, according to Tim Wölke from the German magazine Metal Hammer, and added a good portion of groove to their noise funk . Even if the band used English-language texts, according to the online magazine HipHop.de they were among the first relevant groups in rap in Germany.
