NBC Blue
The NBC Blue Network was a commercial radio network of the National Broadcasting Company (after 1942: NBC Radio Network) in the USA. It was founded in 1926 alongside the NBC Red Network . They were the first two nationwide media networks in the United States . Main competitors in the early years were the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) founded in 1927 and the Mutual Broadcasting System (Mutual) founded in 1934 .
While NBC Red shifted to a commercial music program, NBC Blue broadcast a partially ad-free news and cultural program. According to some historians, most of the stations on the Red Network were played by AT&T and those of the Blue Network by the newer RCA Network.
In 1943, NBC was asked to give up one of its networks for antitrust reasons. The FCC supervisory authority saw the two NBC networks as particularly dominant and recommended a split. In particular, the accusation was raised that the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was only trying to prevent serious competition from the successful music and entertainment network NBC Red by operating the partly advertising-free news and culture network NBC Blue .
The group then sold its NBC Blue Network. After the split, NBC Red continued to work independently as NBC Radio Network until it was sold in 1987. NBC Blue became the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) , which still exists today .
