WBZ is a radio station in Boston , Massachusetts with a news program. The station belongs to the network of CBS Radio and is a clear channel station . The program is also broadcast on HD radio . The studios are located in the Boston borough of Allston and the transmission tower is in Hull , Massachusetts. WBZ is a “designated Primary Entry Point” (PEP) for the US Emergency Alert System (EAS).

history

WBZ was licensed as one of the first stations in the US on September 15, 1921 and originally broadcast from Springfield . On January 1, 1927, WBZ became part of the newly formed NBC Blue Network . In 1931 the station moved to Boston. WBZ is the oldest radio station in New England and one of the oldest in the United States.

Awards

WBZ received the NAB Marconi Radio Award five times . WBZ NewsRadio won the award for the first time in 1995 and again in 1998, most recently in 2013. In 1999, the station was named the best in the News / Talk / Sports category. In 2010 it was named “Legendary Station of the Year”, a prize that each station can only receive once.
