NIIT (short for: National Institute of Information Technology ) is a global software group with headquarters in New Delhi . The company's shares are traded on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The group is represented in German-speaking countries by NIIT Technologies GmbH , based in Frankfurt am Main .

history

In 1981 the Indian entrepreneurs Rajendra S. Pawar and Vijay K. Thadani founded the National Institute of Information Technology as a private IT training company. Over time, IT Services and Solutions emerged as a second division alongside teaching . In 1993 NIIT went public.

In 2004 NIIT separated its two business areas: NIIT Ltd. continues the teaching activity begun in 1981, NIIT Technologies focuses on software development and the management of business processes.

Today the Indian parent company NIIT Technologies is represented in 14 countries and employs 5,000 people worldwide.

In 2000 resulted from the merger of IBM subsidiary with the Opus Informatic AG , the AD Solutions AG . In 2002 NIIT acquired all the shares in AD Solutions AG and was thus one of the first Indian companies to have a subsidiary on the German market. In 2004 the subsidiary AD Solutions AG was renamed NIIT Technologies AG . In 2007 the company was converted from an AG to a GmbH.

The product range includes, among other things, offshore IT services from the Indian parent company.

NIIT Technologies GmbH is represented at two locations in Germany ( Frankfurt am Main , Monheim am Rhein ).

Others

The “ Hole in the Wall ” experiment, launched by Sugata Mitra in collaboration with the NIIT in 1999, inspired the Indian author Vikas Swarup to write his novel Rupien! Rupees! . In 2008 the book was made into a film by Danny Boyle under the title Slumdog Millionaire .
