The NSB El 1 series were electric locomotives that were used by the Norges Statsbaner (NSB) from 1922 to 1973.
history
In connection with the gauge changeover that took place in 1920 and the subsequent electrification of the railway line from Oslo V to Brakerøya in 1922 , the NSB procured 22 units of the El 1 series from Norwegian manufacturers as the first own electric locomotive series . The electrical part was built by Per Kure Norsk Motor- og Dynamofabrik in Hasle , the mechanical part by Thunes mekaniske .
The locomotives were used in freight and passenger train service.
NSB El 1a
The locomotive is comparable to the Prussian EG 511 to EG 537 or the Swedish Oc . It has two two-axle bogies , each of which is driven by a motor via a jackshaft with a drive rod .
The electric motors are housed under a hood in front of the driver's cab. The power switch, transformer and control units are located behind the cab. The two engines have a total of 940 hp , the locomotive weighs 62 tons and has a top speed of 70 km / h.
NSB El 1b
In later years the El 1s were also used on the routes around Drammen as well as in Stavanger and Kristiansand . This created a need for more electric locomotives.
Due to the positive experience, two more locomotives of this series were purchased in 1930. Since they had a slightly higher service mass, they were classified under the El 1b series .
Rj.B. 14 and 15
In 1968, Rjukanbanen acquired El 1 in 2001 and El 1 in 2021 . The El 1 2001 was taken over by the Railway Museum in Hamar in 1987 , the El 1 2021 was parked in 1981 and later scrapped.
Whereabouts
Between 1962 and 1973, all of the locomotives in the NSB fleet were taken out of service, the last being El 1 2022 on June 15, 1973 .
Only the discarded already on March 2, 1973 El 1 2011 was passed immediately after the shutdown of the Norsk Jernbaneklubb, who restored it and in 1975 the Norwegian Railway Museum on set. It has been used as an operational museum locomotive ever since.
According to a decision on April 2, 1966, El 1 2001 was to become an exhibit. It came to the museum's collection from Rjukanbanen in 1987, was given its former company number again and, following a decision in 2010, was not made publicly accessible.
