BMU73 - second class

NSB Type 73 is the name of a Norwegian electric multiple unit , which was designed by Norges Statsbaner for longer distances. 22 of him were made in two series by Strømmens Værksted , which was part of Adtranz at the time of construction .

The four-part multiple units operated by NSB are high-speed trains with speeds of up to 210 km / h , which have been running between Oslo and Kristiansand as Krengetog (pronunciation [ ˈkrɛŋəˌtoːg ]; German  tilting train ) since November 1, 1999 .

Technical design

The 16 trains of the first Type 73 series and six of the second Type 73B series have tilting technology and ensure a significantly higher travel speed on the winding routes without any loss of comfort. The four-part trains (BM + BFR + BMU + BFM) offer 54 first class and 151 second class seats. They have a bistro, a handicapped-accessible compartment and a play area for children. The six trains in the BM 73B series have 30 first-class and 213 second-class seats.

The route network was expanded to Trondheim (1999) and Bergen (2000) and beyond Kristiansand to Stavanger (1999). A slightly modified version of the train with the series designation BM 73B runs on the Oslo - Halden ( Østfoldbanen ) route , which has more seats (for example, a children's play compartment was dispensed with due to the shorter route) and different paintwork (red / silver instead of blue) / silver) can be distinguished.

On June 17, 2000, the trains were taken out of service due to material fatigue due to an axle break at Nelaug , as cracks were also found on the other trains. In mid-July 2000, operations were resumed at a reduced speed of 160 km / h until the cause was clarified.

It was decided that all axles need to be replaced. By summer 2004, all 73 and 73B had been rebuilt with new axles, bogie frames and reinforced tilting mechanisms. After the conversion with tilting operation, the top speed was again 210 km / h. Each bogie is a ton heavier. Production took place at the Bombardier plant in Derby .

On February 21, 2007 there was a derailment on the Bergensbane between Myrdal and Hallingskeid after an avalanche had buried the route. The first two wagons of the train consisting of two BM 73s fell down the embankment and got stuck in the snow. Since the driver could still brake, there were no injuries; However, there were then doubts as to whether the fairly light trains, which do not have a rail clearer, are adequately prepared for such weather conditions. Jernbaneverket has criticized this before .

In the 2013/14 winter timetable, no type 73 trains ran on the Bergensbane.

traffic

Since January 2005, NSB has been operating high-speed traffic between Gothenburg and Oslo in close cooperation with Tågkompaniet ( Mellerud / Skälebol – Kornsjö and Østfoldbanen railway ). Tågkompaniet is the operator of the Swedish part of the route with 30 employees with all obligations for traffic between Kornsjö , the border station to Norway, and Gothenburg , on which 385,000 train kilometers per year and 150,000 people are transported. This includes operational control, traffic and the monitoring and implementation of all permits issued by the Swedish security authorities. The traffic is carried out with two Norwegian express railcars NSB BM73 B, the fastest trains in the Swedish rail network with 210 km / h. The train is operated by Norwegian staff on the Swedish route.

Whereabouts

The two sets 73-10 and 73-13 were completely destroyed in a fire on June 16, 2011 near Bergen. The fire started in a 200 meter long snow superstructure near Hallingskeid train station . 257 passengers were evacuated.
