Nailah Thorbourne , better known by her stage name Nyla , is a Jamaican singer . She and her sister formed the R&B duo Brick & Lace . As a solo singer, in collaboration with Major Lazer , she reached the top 10 in various European charts with the song Light It Up .

biography

Nyla is the daughter of a Jamaican father and a US mother and has three other sisters. After attending St. Andrew High School , she studied marketing at Miami Dade College . She chose the stage name Nyla because strangers could never spell her real first name. From 2004 to 2013 she formed the music duo Brick & Lace with her sister Nyanda . In 2015 she featured Major Lazer in their song Light It Up , which was produced for Major Lazer's third studio album, Peace Is the Mission . After the success of Lean On , Major Lazer decided to do a remix of this song, Nyla's vocals were retained. This remix achieved top 10 placements in the German , Austrian , Swiss and British single charts . Nyla also contributed vocals to the remix of Ed Sheeran's Shape of You made by Major Lazer .
