Nabari no Ō ( Japanese 隠 の 王 , dt. "Ruler of Nabari") is a manga series by Yūki Kamatani , which was published in Japan from 2004 to 2010. The manga was adapted as an anime television series and can be classified into the genres of action , drama and comedy .

content

The 14-year-old student Miharu Rokujō ( 六条 壬 晴 ) wants to lead a simple life and run an okonomiyaki restaurant after school . His friends Kōichi Aizawa ( 相 澤 虹 一 ) and Thobari Kumohira Durandal ( 雲 平 ・ 帷 ・ デ ュ ラ ン ダ ル ) learn ninja techniques in a club. Miharu doesn't want anything to do with it, but one day he is attacked by real ninjas. Kōichi and Thobari protect him and then initiate Miharu into the world of ninjas, the Nabari . He gets to know the roles of his classmates and teachers in the Nabari and carries the Hijutsu Shinrabanshō ( 森羅 万象 ) in himself. The hijutsu, which contains the knowledge of the world, is desired in the Nabari. Miharu soon no longer has the opportunity to return to his old life and has to assert himself in the Nabari.

Characters

Miharu Rokujo
The 14-year-old Miharu is a hijutsu (hidden technique), but wants nothing to do with ninjas, but just wants to lead a peaceful life. However, there are many ninjas who target hijutsu.
Koichi Aizawa
Koichi is a school friend of Miharu and a ninja. He's also in his school's ninja club and tries to persuade Miharu to join. But after he was attacked by enemy ninja, Koichi appoints himself to be his protector.
Thobari Kumohira Durandal
Thobari is the English teacher at the school. He, too, is a ninja and, together with Koichi, protects Miharu from hostile clans who are after Hijutsu. He is terrified of using any kind of transport, but Koichi and Raimei usually force him to do so.
Raimei Shimizu
Raimei is a samurai and an ally of Thobari and Koichi. When she learns that Miharu carries the hijutsu, she decides to protect him too. She always carries a katana with her.

publication

The manga was published from June 2004 to 2010 in the manga magazine GFantasy published by Square Enix . The individual chapters also appear in 14 anthologies .

A French translation is published by Asuka Comics and the manga is published by Yen Press in North America.

Anime adaptation

In 2008, the JCStaff studio produced a 26-part anime television series based on the manga. It was directed by Kunihisa Sugishima , the character design was created by Kazunori Iwakura and the artistic director was Yoshinori Hirose . The series was broadcast from April 6 to September 28, 2008 by TV Tokyo . Days later, TV Aichi , TV Hokkaido , TV Osaka , TV Setouchi and TVQ Kyushu began broadcasting . It was later repeated by AT-X and KIDS STATION.

MTV aired the series in Italy, Kaze owns the rights for a release in France, and Funimation for North America.

Michiru Oshima composed the music for the series. The opening credits are underlaid with Crawl by Veltpunch, the end credits are Hikari by Elisa and Aru ga Mama ( あ る が ま ま ) by Anamu & Maki.

success

The ninth volume of the manga was ranked fourth in the top-selling manga of the week in Japan in August 2008. Volume 10 sold over 120,000 copies.
