According to the law ( Russian По закону ) is a Soviet feature film from 1926. The rare case of an Eastern European silent film - western was directed by Lev Kuleschow . The literary template is Jack London's short story The Unexpected . Alternative titles are Atonement and Dura Lex .

A group of five gold seekers is out and about in the Yukon. When they finally succeed, there is a dispute as one of the men feels cheated and kills two other members of the team. Two others, a married couple, survive the attack and overwhelm the attacker. But you have to deal with the problem of not being able to hand it over to the authorities for weeks; Far from civilization, they have to choose between vigilante justice and the hassle and risk of having to keep him under surveillance for weeks.
Remarks
The film's soundtrack, "a masterpiece of Russian silent film," wasn't added until years later, when the film was re-released and shown again as a classic.
