According to the law ( Russian По закону ) is a Soviet feature film from 1926. The rare case of an Eastern European silent film - western was directed by Lev Kuleschow . The literary template is Jack London's short story The Unexpected . Alternative titles are Atonement and Dura Lex .

A group of five gold seekers is out and about in the Yukon. When they finally succeed, there is a dispute as one of the men feels cheated and kills two other members of the team. Two others, a married couple, survive the attack and overwhelm the attacker. Remarks

The film's soundtrack, "a masterpiece of Russian silent film," wasn't added until years later, when the film was re-released and shown again as a classic.
