Naděžda Kniplová

Naděžda Kniplová (born April 18, 1932 in Ostrava ; † January 14, 2020 there ) was a Czech soprano opera singer.

Kniplová studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and received her first opera engagement in Ústí nad Labem in 1957 . There she also appeared for the first time in Jenůfa in the role of Kostelnička, which became her life role. After three years she moved to Brno and in 1964 became a member of the National Theater Brno , where she took part in operas in German, Czech and Italian for almost thirty years.

Since the mid-1960s, Kniplová was also known internationally, especially as the heroine in Richard Wagner's operas . In 1967 she sang the role of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre under Herbert von Karajan at the first Salzburg Easter Festival .

She thrilled audiences and critics in works by Beethoven, Strauss, Puccini and Janáček in the opera houses in Vienna, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Rome, San Francisco, Stockholm, Montreal, Barcelona, ​​Modena, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and Geneva and has worked in numerous record productions.

In 1991 she was appointed professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
