Nadine Ijewere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nadine Ijewere (* around 1992 in London , United Kingdom ) is a British photographer of Nigerian-Jamaican descent. Ijewere mainly photographs fashion and portraits and has become particularly known for photographing models that do not correspond to the classic stereotypes of the fashion industry.

Life

Nadine Ijewere was born in London to a Nigerian father and a Jamaican mother. After completing school, she first studied science and mathematics, and only took photos in her free time. She later decided to change - according to her own account because of the biases in fashion photography - and began studying photography at the London College of Fashion . In her senior year of college, she began photographing non-white models who are not commonly depicted in fashion photography. This aspect has become central to her work.

After completing her degree, she avoided the classic route of being a photography assistant and started working for an interior design company. She kept her passion for photography and continued to photograph non-white models in her spare time. She began to publish a lot of her work on social networks, which resulted in more professional photography jobs.

Ijewere now works almost exclusively as a photographer and has worked with companies such as Dazed , iD , Stella McCartney , Nike and Gap , among others . In 2017 she exhibited work at the Unseen Amsterdam photo festivals and the Lagos Photo Festival .

At the age of 26, Ijewere was the first black photographer in the world to shoot a cover for Vogue fashion magazine . The cover of the January 2019 issue portrayed Dua Lipa , Binx Walton , and Letitia Wright on the Kent coast.
