The FK Naftan Nawapolazk ( Belarusian Нафтан Наваполацак , Russian Нафтан Новополоцк / Naftan Novopolotsk ) is a football club from the Belarusian city of Navapolazk . He plays in the Wyschejschaja Liha , the top division of Belarus . The club celebrated its greatest successes by winning the national soccer cup in 2009 and 2012.

history

FK Naftan Nawapolazk was founded in 1963. Between 1995 and 2000 he was named Naftan-Dewon Nawapolazk.

Since 1996, with a one-year break in the 2002 season, the club has belonged to the Wyschejschaja Liha. In the 2009 season, the team achieved their best result to date with fourth place. Also in 2009, FK Naftan celebrated their first title win in the cup with a 2-1 final win after extra time against FK Schachzjor Salihorsk , after the team had prevailed in the semifinals against champions BATE Baryssau .

In its first international appearance, the club failed to qualify for the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League after a 2-1 home win in the first leg and a 0-1 away defeat in the second leg due to the away goals rule at KAA Gent . In 2012, a qualifying match for the Europa League 2012/13 against FK Roter Stern Belgrade was followed by a 3: 4 at home and a 3: 3 in Belgrade. Both home games were played in the Vitebsk Central Sports Complex .
