The Naknek Lake is a lake in southwest Alaska on the Alaska Peninsula .
The 585 km² large lake lies entirely in the Katmai National Park . The lake is very indented. In addition to the main basin, there is the North Arm in the northeast and the Iliuk Arm in the southeast . The Naknek Lake is fed, among other things, by the Savonoski River , which rises on the western flank of the Aleutian chain . The lake's outflow is the Naknek River , which flows westward into Bristol Bay . A few kilometers downriver is King Salmon, the closest town.
In the southeast of the lake at the mouth of Lake Brooks lies Brooks Camp , accessible by seaplane , from which the only road in the national park leads to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in the southeast .
