Namık Tan (* 1956 in Mardin ) is a Turkish diplomat . From 2010 to 2014 he was Turkey's Ambassador to the United States .

Life

Namık Tan studied law at Ankara University , is married and has two children. He joined the Foreign Service in 1982 and was employed in the Department of Maritime Affairs. From 1984 to 1987 he was the second-class embassy secretary in Moscow . From 1988 to 1990 he was first class embassy secretary in Abu Dhabi .

In 1991 he was the deputy office manager of Turgut Özal . From 1991 to 1995 and from 1997 to 2001 he was Counselor in Washington, DC In 1996 he was office manager of Emre Gönensay . In 2001 he headed the America department. From 2002 to 2003 he headed the news department. From 2004 to 2007 he was the spokesman for the Disisleri Bakanligi (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). From 2007 to 2009 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv-Jaffa . Until February 2010 he was Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and headed the Bilateral and Public Relations departments . In February 2010 he was appointed ambassador to Washington, DC.

After retiring from the diplomatic service in 2014, Tan works for the construction company of Sezai Turkes and Feyzi Akkaya (STFA).
