Namaacha is a district of the Maputo province in Mozambique with its seat in the eponymous town of Namaacha . The district is bordered by the Moamba district to the north, the Kingdom of Swaziland and the South African province of Mpumalanga to the west, the Matutuíne district to the south and the Boane district to the east . The place Namaacha is located about 70 kilometers from the capital Maputo .

population

The Namaacha district is 2,144 square kilometers and had a population of 41,954 people in 2007, which corresponds to a population density of 19.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. Compared to the 1997 population census - at that time there were 31,441 people in the Namaacha district - the number has increased by 33.4 percent. The population is on average very young, around 40 percent of all residents are under 15 years of age and the majority are rural; around 28 percent live in urbanized areas.

Facilities and services

There are 77 schools in the Namaacha district, 41 of which are primary schools ( escola do ensino primário ). There are also 13 health centers for the supply of the population.

In the town of Namaacha itself there is a branch of the state Correios de Moçambique . Furthermore, a Mozambican bank, the former state-owned Millenium bim , has a branch in the district, also directly in Namaacha.

Administrative division

The Namaacha district is divided into two administrative posts ( postos administrativos ):

  • Namaacha with the surrounding villages of Chimuchuanine, Impaputo, Mafuiane and Matsequenha
  • Changalane with the surrounding villages of Goba Estação, Mahelane and Michangulene

The city of Namaacha has been a Munizip ( município ) since 2008 , which means more self-government rights are associated with it. In addition, the local population has since then had the right to elect the district mayor themselves. In the local elections in 2008 and 2013 Jorge Tinga (was FRELIMO ) elected mayor.

The Naamacha district is crossed by the EN2 road, which connects the Maputo metropolitan area with the Kingdom of Swaziland. The Linha de Goba (Maputo – Swaziland) railway also crosses the district.
