The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) was founded in 1992 in the Namibian capital Windhoek . The umbrella organization of basketball in Namibia developed from school sport at the German Higher Private School Windhoek (DHPS). The association regulates, among other things, the Namibian basketball leagues and other national competitions and sends the Namibian national basketball teams .
In 1997 the NBF was recognized by the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA).
Since July 6, 2010, the NBF has been officially divided into 13 regional associations, each representing a region of Namibia . This structure is used to promote sport in a more targeted manner.

Leagues
The first division was in 1989, d. H. launched before the association was founded and consisted of various school teams made up mainly of children from foreign experts. Only a few Namibians played in the teams. However, this has changed a lot since 1997.
The national league is divided into five regional leagues (each for men and women), so that, due to the large distances, it can be carried out without extreme travel costs. The regional leagues are also administered regionally.
- Central League (also known as the "Khomas League")
- Coastal League (also known as "Erongo League")
- North East League (also known as "Caprivi League")
- North League (also known as "4-O League")
- Northern League (also known as the "Kavango League")
mode
The leagues are played as tournaments or as return matches. The best eight or best four teams in each regional league play the play-offs in the best of three mode .
The winners of the regional leagues play the National Championship among themselves. The first and second of the regional leagues "North", "Northern" and "North East" qualify for the elimination tournament of the northern teams, as well as the first three teams from the "Central League" and the winner of the "Coastal League" for the elimination tournament of Southern teams. The first two teams of the two qualifying tournaments play in a simple semi-final for a place in the final of the national championship. Third place is also played out.
Cup
There is a national cup competition for women and men, but it is not held every year.
International level
National team
The NBF has been sending national teams for men and women of various age groups to international tournaments since 1997. The national teams have not yet qualified for any major international tournaments.
