Nancy Elizabeth Lieberman (born July 1, 1958 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American basketball coach and former player. In 2009 she was the head coach of the Colorado 14ers , which were replaced by the Texas Legends the following year , in the NBA Development League . Lieberman is the first head coach in a men's professional basketball league. She is also active in television as a basketball expert and analyst. Lieberman is one of the most famous personalities in women's basketball.

At the age of 18 she became the youngest medalist in basketball in the history of the Olympic Games : with the US team, she won the silver medal in 1976 . In 1986 she played for Springfield Fame in the United States Basketball League , making her the first player in a professional men's basketball league . 1997 Lieberman was active for Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA , later she coached the team of Detroit Shock . She also worked for some time as a fitness trainer for tennis player Martina Navrátilová .

In 2000 she was inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame .
