Nanni Loy (actually Giovanni Loy , born October 23, 1925 in Cagliari , † August 21, 1995 in Rome ) was an Italian film director , actor and screenwriter .

Life

Loy first studied law, then attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and directed a few short films. In 1949 he began working for over five years as an assistant director for numerous important colleagues of his time. In 1955 he was active as the director of the second staff for Tam Tam Mayumbe , whereupon he was commissioned to co-direct Gianni Puccini's two comedies. In 1961, after another comedy, Un giorno da leoni appeared , which, like its successor, The Four Days of Naples , which was nominated for 2 Oscars in 1964 and won Nastro d'Argento as best film, won over critics and audiences alike. From then on, Loy was able to produce his own films, which always remained interesting, even if the great success never returned. From the 1980s onwards, Loy also worked occasionally for television.

Since 1964, Loy has played occasional roles in other directors' films.
