Nanny Still
Nanny Elisabet Still McKinney (born July 31, 1926 in Helsinki ; † May 7, 2009 in Brussels ) was a Finnish designer.
Life
Still graduated from the Helsinki School of Applied Arts and then from 1949 worked as a designer in the Riihimäki glassworks . There she designed both synthetic glass and glass for use in series production. Her early work in the 1950s was in the abstract style of Scandinavian modernism. She then turned to more colored glass. In 1963 her best-known work was the Flindari glass series .
However, she also worked with other materials. In 1954 she was honored at the Milan Triennale for salad servers made of wood. Silently also designed metal cutlery. The Mango series was created in 1973 for the Finnish company Hackman , followed by a series of cast iron pots in the 1990s.
In 1959 she moved to Belgium and also worked for tableware manufacturers in Central Europe such as Cérabel and the German manufacturers Rosenthal and Heinrich Porzellan.
