Nantelmus from Ecublens

Nantelmus of Ecublens († May 12, 1203 ) was bishop of Sitten from 1196 until his death .

Life

Nantelmus came from the noble family of Vaud d'Ecublens , the bishop of Lausanne Wilhelm von Ecublens was his nephew. He was canon in Sion in 1161 , dean of the Lausanne cathedral chapter in 1176, and from 1180 deacon and canon. He became bishop of Sion in July or August 1196. From 1196 to 1201 provost of Lausanne - this position was however contested after his appointment as bishop. Pope Innocent III had Nantelmus' claims examined by three commissioners in 1201. In 1199 Nantelmus confirmed the ownership rights of the canons of the hospice on the Great St. Bernard and settled a protracted conflict between the Sion cathedral chapter and the hospice of Mont-Joux (on the Great St. Bernard). In 1200 he granted his protection to the monks of Hauterive .
