Johann Anton von Zieten

Johann Anton von Zieten (born July 12, 1640 in Lögow, Ruppin district , † April 20, 1690 in Hamm ) was a Prussian officer, most recently major general. Zieten was appointed governor of Minden in 1689 and was the son-in-law of Field Marshal Georg von Derfflinger .

He was the son of Kaspar von Zieten (* 1604, † 1688) and Anna Katharina von Britzke from the Knobloch family.

He participated in all campaigns under Elector Friedrich Wilhelm (Great Elector) . In 1677 he got his own regiment, which was composed of garrisons in the Mark and Pomerania. It formed the basis for Infantry Regiment No. 8 . On February 20, 1679 he was appointed colonel and on April 21, 1689 major general and in October 1689 governor of Minden.

Since May 8, 1683 he was married to Katharina Charlotte von Derfflinger (* 1651; † after 1690). The couple had a son and three daughters. He is a direct ancestor of Otto von Bismarck through his daughter Luise .
