Narendra Patel, Baron Patel

Narendra Babubhai Patel, Baron Patel , KT , Kt , FMedSci , FRSE (born May 11, 1938 in Lindi , now Tanzania ) is a British-Tanzanian obstetrician and Chancellor of the University of Dundee .

Life

Patel was born to Indian immigrants. He studied medicine at the University of St. Andrews until 1964 and then worked for over thirty years at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, starting in 1974 as a consultant obstetrician.

In 1969 Patel became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists , in 1988 he was made a Fellow ; from 1992 to 1995 he was Vice-President and from 1995 to 1998 President of this organization. In 2000 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . Several universities awarded Patel an honorary doctorate, and numerous medical associations made him an honorary member.

In 1997 the Queen proposed him to a Knight Bachelor degree , in 1999 he was raised to the status of a Life Peer with the title Baron Patel , of Dunkeld in Perth and Kinross, and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since . In parliament he is on the side of the Crossbencher .

In 2006 he was named Chancellor of the University of Dundee . In 2009 he was beaten to the Knight Companion of the Order of the Thistle .

He is married and has three children.
