The Naresuan Dam ( Thai : เขื่อน สมเด็จ พระ นเรศวร มหาราช ) is a dam in the northern Thai province of Phitsanulok . It is used to irrigate agricultural areas in the province. In 2011, a small remote hydroelectric power plant is to be put into operation, which will produce 8 MW .

The Naresuan Dam is located about 30  km north of the city Phitsanulok in Amphoe Phrom Phiram .

Building history

The construction of the Naresuan Dam took place between 1977 and 1985 as the Phitsanulok Irrigation Project and was funded by the World Bank, the dam was planned and executed by Japanese, Italian and Thai companies. The companies involved were:

  • Nishimusu Construction Co.
  • Viwat Construction Co.
  • United Construction Co.
  • Vichitphan Co.

The construction cost was US $ 95 million

Function and meaning

In addition to irrigation, the Naresuan Dam is also used to build a reservoir, which is intended to prevent flooding in the region in the event of heavy rainfall.

The installed power of the power plant is 8 MW with one turbine  . The annual production is 43.03 million kWh .
