The Naryn ridge ( Kazakh Нарын жотасы ; Russian Нары́мский хребе́т ) is a mountain range of the southern Altai Mountains in eastern Kazakhstan .
The Naryn ridge extends in west-east direction over a length of 120 km. It reaches a maximum height of 2782 m . The Naryn flows along the northern flank . In the northwest is the Buchtarma reservoir . To the south, the mountains slope towards the Kürschim river valley . The Sarymsaqty mountain range connects to the east . In the mountains next rock is found: Paleozoic sandstone , conglomerate , mica , tuff and granite - intrusions . The Narym ridge drops steeply to the north. To 1300 m altitude are on the northern slopes birch - and aspen forests before. Larches grow at higher altitudes . In the valleys there are forests of spruce , fir and Siberian stone pines . Steppe vegetation consisting of ragweed fescue and feather grass grows on the southern slopes . Above 1800 m there is sub-alpine vegetation with sparse forest vegetation and alpine grass areas.
