Nastassja Daschkewitsch , better known as Nasta Palaschanka ( Belarusian Настасся Дашкевіч, "Наста" Палажанка ; * 1990 in Belarus ), is a Belarusian activist and opposition member . In 2011 she was vice-chair of the non-governmental organization Malady Front (Малады Фронт (МФ, MF), "Young Front") and in the same year received the International Women of Courage Award from the United States Department of State .

Life

At the age of 14, Palaschanka joined the opposition youth movement in Belarus. Despite threats and politically motivated pressure against her and her family, she stood up for basic human rights , civil rights and the freedom of civil society . She was repeatedly imprisoned, but developed into a key figure in the opposition youth movement.

On December 26, 2012 Palaschanka married in prison in Hrodna (Grodno) Smizer Dashkevich .

The Malady Front works for a spiritual and national revitalization of Belarus, based on Christian principles and national values. (As of November 2018)

Awards

In 2011 Nasta Palaschanka was the first Belarusian woman to receive the “International Women of Courage Award”. Rosa Otunbajewa , Central Asia's first female head of state in Kyrgyzstan, and the lawyer Guo Jianmei , who campaigns for women's rights in China, were also among the ten women of the year . Palaschanka could not be present at the award ceremony with Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama .
