Natale Montillo

Natale Montillo (born May 5, 1898 in Castellammare di Stabia ; † November 13, 1965 ibid) was an Italian cinema operator , film director , film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Montillo had a childhood and adolescence full of privation and took on all kinds of odd jobs to get through life. He was a participant in the First World War and did not return to Italy until 1920 as a prisoner of war, where he found employment as a waiter and baker . Montillo succeeded in establishing a new bakery, which brought him the impressive sum of 50,000 lire at the time. In 1930 he began to be interested in the film business. That is why he ran the “Cinema Corso” in Castellamare, where he also organized large variety shows. He soon enlarged and expanded his cinemas and was inventive in promoting his ideas. He was able to operate the projection halls until the Second World War.

After the Second World War he took on the role of producer and screenwriter. Until 1953 he was involved in productions that focused on Neapolitan themes and were great successes in southern Italy; Montillo also directed two of them. In 1958 a last film followed, La sposa , for which he wrote the script and acted as organizer. Since 1954 he was again owner of one of the most modern cinemas in his country at the time, and he withdrew more and more for health reasons.
