Natasha Negovanlis (born April 3, 1990 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian actress . She was known for the title role in the LGBT - web series Carmilla .

Career

As an actress

Negovanlis studied voice performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University . However, she decided to leave school during the third year to devote herself to her acting career. Four days after leaving school, she was cast in a professional musical. For her performance in the musical, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress on Broadwayworld.com in 2012 . In 2015, she starred in the film Almost Adults .

In 2015, Negovalis was voted 5th on AfterEllen's Hot 100 list .

Carmilla

In 2014, Negovanlis was cast in the title role on the web series Carmilla . In the series, which is based on the Gothic novel of the same name from 1872, Negovanlis plays the vampire Carmilla, who appears after the former roommate of her new roommate disappears. The series is known for its depictions of LGBT characters and has been viewed over 45 million times on the Vervegirl YouTube channel, which has since been renamed KindaTV.

Personal life

Negovanlis describes himself as pansexual . Negovanlis works for Shaftesbury Films and Smokebomb Entertainment on their YouTube channel KindaTV. Since June 2015 she has been working for AfterEllen , a lifestyle website for queer women .
