Nathaniël Maxuilili

Immanuel Gottlieb Nathaniël Maxuilili (born October 10, 1927 in Tsumeb , South West Africa , † June 23, 1999 near Walvis Bay ) was a Namibian politician of the SWAPO and freedom fighter in the War of Independence . From 1989 to 1990 he was a member of the Constituent Assembly of Namibia .

Maxuilili was arrested on September 7, 1966 with numerous other activists, including Andimba Toivo ya Toivo , and sentenced to five years in prison. He lived under house arrest in Walvis Bay from 1977 to 1985 . Maxuilili held numerous deputy ministerial posts in the 1990s. He died in an ambulance that was supposed to take him to Walvis Bay International Airport when it was involved in a head-on collision.

Maxuilili was posthumously honored, among other things, with a street name in Swakopmund ( Central district ) and the name of a patrol ship of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources , the Nathaniël Maxuilili . Since June 23, 2000 there has been a memorial at the place of his death.
