The National Defense University of Malaysia (Mal. Universiti Pertahanan Nasional, English National Defense University of Malaysia) (UPNM) is the training center for officers of the armed forces of Malaysia . The Kuala Lumpur- based college is an officer school and university at the same time, and it trains candidate officers for the Malay armed forces and civilian students who receive academic and military training.
history
In 1995 the Malaysian Armed Forces Academy (mal. Akedemi Tentera Malaysia ) was founded. It was the only training facility in the country where officer candidates received their military and academic training for Bachelor of Science . The academic training was carried out in cooperation with the Technical University of Malaysia , which conducted the courses and awarded the academic degree. In 2006 the military academy received university status and an independent academic program up to Doctor of Philosophy . In addition, from 2007 the university accepted civilian students.
organization
The university management consists of the chancellor, several pro-chancellors, the vice-chancellor, the treasurer and the head of matriculation. The chancellor and the three pro-chancellors are honorary positions and are occupied by well-known personalities, while the full-time management of the university is headed by the vice-chancellor, an officer. The entire university management is supervised by a board of directors. The university is divided into the following faculties :

- Faculty of Medicine and Defense Health
- Defense Sciences and Technology Faculty
- Faculty of Defense and Management Studies
- Language Center
Military training
The military training of the officer candidates takes place in the Military Training Academy of the university. Similar training is provided for civilian students who are also candidate reserve officers . With an academic degree from the university, they receive the patent as reserve officers in the Malay armed forces.
