The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW; German  National Association of Namibian Workers ) is one of the three major trade union confederations in Namibia . It has (as of 2018) around 85,000 members who are organized in nine unions .

NUNW is a member of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU).

background

The union was founded in April 1970 by SWAPO in exile in Tanzania . Eight years later, NUNW became a member of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU). In 1979 the new headquarters of NUNW was relocated to Luanda , Angolan . In 1989 the general assembly of the union in Namibia decided to unite with individual unions.

In October 2009, NUNW joined the ITUC, thereby ending its membership in the WFTU

Most recently, in 2014, NUNW publicly affirmed its support for the ruling SWAPO.
