The National Philharmonic of Ukraine ( Ukrainian Національна філармонія України / Nazionalna filarmonija Ukraiiny ) is a complex of two neighboring concert halls in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The Philharmonic is located in Khreshchaty Park by the European Square in the center of Kiev. The historic main building has the status of an architectural monument and was built in 1882 according to plans by the architect Vladimir N. Nikolayev for the Kiev Merchants' Association, the annex was built in 1934.
The building, known for its good acoustics, was awarded the status of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in October 1994 by the then President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma . The pillared hall in the main building, named after Mykola Lysenko , is the most important venue in Kiev after the opera house and is the home of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine .
