Vladimir Nikolayevich Nikolayev
Vladimir Nikolayevich Nikolayev ( Russian Владимир Николаевич Николаев , * February 19 jul. / 3. March 1847 greg. In Tsarskoye Selo , † November 11 jul. / 24. November 1911 greg. In Kiev ) was an outstanding Russian architect , who in the Ukrainian capital Kiev worked. He is considered a typical representative of architectural eclecticism .
Life
He studied at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts , where he graduated in 1871. After spending a few months as an architect in the capital, he received an offer in May 1872 to work in Kiev, which he accepted. In Kiev he already made it to the city architect in 1873, further to a member of the city council, chairman of the Kiev literary and artistic society and the architecture department of the Kiev branch of the Imperial Russian Technical Society. In addition, he was the founder and permanent director of the Kiev Art School founded in 1901.
In nearly forty years of architectural activity in Kiev, he erected three monuments, 18 churches, 27 public buildings and hundreds of private houses.
He died in Kiev on November 24, 1911 at the age of 64 and was buried at Askold's grave in Kiev.

Examples of his work are the Bohdan Khmelnyzkyj Monument , the National Philharmonic of Ukraine , the Liebermann Villa , the Chocolate House , the Refectory of the Church of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra , the Women's Convent of the Virgin Mary Protection and Intercession , today's National Theater of the Russian drama Lesja-Ukrajinka and the Jewish cemetery Lukjaniwskyj in Kiev.
