The National Theater of Russian Drama Lesya Ukrainka ( Ukrainian Національний академічний театр російської драми імені Лесі Українки Nazionalnyj akademitschnyj teatr imeni rossijskoji dramy Lesi Ukrajinky ) is a theater in the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The theater, named after the Ukrainian poet, dramaturge and translator Lesja Ukrajinka , was granted national theater status in 1994.
The director of the theater has been the People's Artist of Ukraine (1980), winner of the Taras Shevchenko Prize (1983) and Hero of Ukraine (2013) Mychajlo Resnikovich ( Михайло Ієрухімович Резнікович ) of the theater since 1994 .

The National Academic Theater of Russian Drama, named after "Lesja Ukrajinka" , the literally translated official name, is located in the central Kiev district of Shevchenko at No. 5 Bohdan-Khmelnytskyi Street near the Khreshchatyk at Teatralna underground station . Opposite is the Museum of the History of Kiev .

In the theater building built in 1875 according to plans by the architect Vladimir Nikolayev , a permanent Russian theater was established in 1891. This became the basis of the theater of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic, named after Lenin , which began its first season on October 15, 1926. On the occasion of Lesja Ukrajinka's 70th birthday in 1941, the theater was named after her. In 1946 the theater was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , in 1966 it received the honorary title of an Academic Theater due to its artistic achievements in connection with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the theater, and in 1994 it received the status of a national theater .
