Native Construct is an American progressive metal band from Boston , Massachusetts that was formed in 2011.

history

The band was formed in 2011 by the three Berklee College of Music students Robert Edens (vocals), Myles Yang (electric guitar) and Max Harchik (electric bass). The group worked on their debut album until 2013, before Metal Blade Records noticed the band and signed them in early 2014. The self-produced album was recorded in the band's own studio in Boston, except for the vocals, which had been recorded with producer Jamie King in Basement Studios in Winston-Salem , North Carolina . The album was mixed by Rich Mouser at The Mouse House Studio in Los Angeles , California . The album was released in April 2015 under the name Quiet World . In September of that year, the group could be seen at ProgPower USA .

style

According to James Christopher Monger from Allmusic , the band plays cross-genre Progressive Metal, which is a mixture of "Art-Metal", songs from musicals , jazz and classical music and is part of groups such as Between the Buried and Me , Mr. Bungle , Sleepytime Gorilla Museum , Coheed and Cambria and Dream Theater . Tobias Blum from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Quiet World that it was full of energy and a thirst for adventure. The group is technically demanding and orientates itself “on the classic prog sound of the seventies with feel-good strings, choirs and an overall very friendly atmosphere, but give it a heavy metal hit, which is even expressed in occasional death metal outbreaks ". The band completely dispensed with choruses in their songs, which lacks catchiness. Andreas Schiffmann also reviewed the album in the same issue. For him the album was overloaded, not thought through and incoherent. It depends, he explained, that a drum computer is used instead of a real drum kit and that the production also involves artificiality. To him it sounds as if “Plastic Queen and Retort Sinatra […] got lost in the Djent jungle after a few hours of jazz guitar ”. Michael Klaas from Metal.de described the album as a mixture of classical, jazz, progressive metal and film music . It is a concept album that deals with the daydreams of an introverted outsider. In the songs, the group is versatile and unpredictable. He also noted the drum computer, but also the use of artificially inserted string instruments . The members try to process as many influences as possible, but they manage not to merge them, rather they exist side by side in the songs.
