Sodium dibunate ( dibunate ) is a drug that belongs to the group of antitussives (" cough suppressants ").

composition

Sodium dibunate is a mixture of two isomers , each of which is differently substituted with two tert- butyl groups :

  • Sodium 3,6-di- tert- butyl-naphthalene-1-sulfonate
  • Sodium 3,7-di- tert- butyl-naphthalene-1-sulfonate

effect

It is thought to block cough receptors in the bronchial tract , while other cough blockers primarily block the cough center in the brain stem .

Sodium dibunate has no structural relationship with other antitussives.
