Nature reserve Auf dem Stein (Finnentrop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Auf dem Stein (Finnentrop) is a 12.85  hectare nature reserve (NSG) southwest of Bamenohl in the municipality of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was designated as a NSG in 1985 by the Olpe district with the landscape plan No. 3 Attendorn - Heggen-Helden . The Ruhr-Sieg route lies on the north-eastern border of the NSG, with the Lenne behind it .

Area description

The NSG is the wooded east to north-east exposed steep slope zone of the mountain Auf dem Stein zur Lenne. The slope is locally interspersed with rocks. Special small ferns grow on the rocks, including a large number of ostrich ferns . The Lennesteilhang there has species-rich forest communities that are worthy of protection, such as gorge forest, Schatthangwald and alluvial forest with small and special biotopes such as rocks and small bodies of water. The alder floodplain forest is located on the Lenne floodplain in front of the Lenne slope.

Protection purpose

The designation as a nature reserve was made because of the forest with canyon forest relics and alder floodplain forest and the species inventory there, especially the specific small fern societies. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
