Tokyo Tasaka

Tokyo Tasaka ( Japanese 田 阪 登 紀 夫 , Tasaka Tokyo ; born September 4, 1947 ) is a Japanese sports scientist and former table tennis player . He won seven medals at world championships in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Career

Tokyo Tasaka studied social sciences at Waseda University , which he graduated in 1970. He achieved his first international success in table tennis in 1968 at the Asian Championships , where he won doubles with Nobuhiko Hasegawa and with the team; in singles he reached the semifinals. In 1970 he was second in singles and doubles with Katsuyuki Abe . He won another gold medal in a team competition in 1972, there was silver in doubles with Nobuhiko Hasegawa and bronze in mixed. In 1974 it was enough for bronze in doubles and silver with the team.

From 1969 to 1977 Tokyo Tasaka took part in four world championships . He was third in the individual in 1969 after a semi-final defeat against Eberhard Schöler . In doubles with Nobuhiko Hasegawa he took silver behind the Swedes Hans Alsér / Kjell Johansson . In 1971 he won bronze in doubles alongside Hasegawa, with the team he made it to the final. In 1977 there were still two silver medals, namely in mixed with Sachiko Yokota and with the team.

In the ITTF world rankings , he finished sixth in early 1973.

After his active table tennis career, he began studying sports science at the Osaka Sports University , which he graduated in 1983. He holds a professorship at Dōshisha University in Kyōtanabe , where he researched physical fitness in cross-country skiing until the beginning of the 90s, the oxygen uptake of university athletes until the mid-90s and, since then, physical fitness in table tennis.
