Headwaters of the Wamelbach

The nature reserve wooded source areas of the Wamelbach is a 26  hectare nature reserve (NSG) southwest of Höingen in the municipality of Ense in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2006 by the district council of the Soest district with the Ense- Wickede landscape plan. The NSG consists of three areas.

Area description

The NSG is a near-natural deciduous forest complex in different stages of development and age with near-natural flowing waters, especially the Wamelbach and springs. There is an old settlement in the area.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect spring areas, streams and forests with their species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
