from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fürstenberg nature reserve is a 41  hectare nature reserve (NSG) south-west of Lüttringen in the municipality of Ense in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated in 2006 by the district council of the Soest district with the Ense-Wickede landscape plan. The NSG consists of two areas. In the west, the NSG right up to almost the federal motorway 445 .

Area description

The NSG is a deciduous forest complex with oak and red beech with parts of old wood on the 279 m high Fürstenberg . Siepen run through the NSG. There are near-natural rivers and springs in the NSG. The shrub layer in the NSG is partly dominated by dense holly populations. A geophyte-rich herb layer with a hollow lark spur has formed on the calcareous subsoil . Extensive ramparts, old settlement areas and a small chapel testify to the cultural and historical importance of the Fürstenberg.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
