Buchberg / Steinkopf nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Buchberg / Steinkopf nature reserve is a 12.85  hectare nature reserve east of Glingebachtalsperre in the municipality of Finnentrop in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 it was designated as a NSG by the Arnsberg district government . As early as 1959 and 1966, the district government had designated a part of today's NSG under the name Hohlkuhl as NSG. The NSG is located near the district boundary and from Sundern (Sauerland) - Wildewiese in the Hochsauerland district.

Area description

The NSG is a forest area with oaks and beeches on the Buchberg and Steinkopf mountains. A special feature there is the partly open graywacken sandstone gravel floor.

Protection purpose

The designation as a nature reserve was made because of the forest with canyon forest relics and alder floodplain forest and the species inventory there, especially the specific small fern societies. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
