Kirrberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kirrberg nature reserve, with an area of 50.50  hectares, is located east of Alchen in the city of Freudenberg and in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district . The area was designated as a nature reserve in 2003 by the district council of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district with the Freudenberg landscape plan. The NSG goes up to the city limits. The adjacent areas of the Trupbacher Heide in the city of Siegen have been designated as a nature reserve Heiden and Magerrasen bei Trupbach . Both protected areas belong to the Trupbacher Heide and were formerly part of the Trupbach military training area . Parts of the Kirrberg nature reserve and the Heiden and Magerrasen near Trupbach nature reserve form the 85 hectare FFH area Heiden and Magerrasen near Trupbach (No. DE-5113-301). The forest areas of the former Trupbach military training area were not designated as NSG or FFH areas.

description

The NSG is the plateau of the former Trupbach military training area with borst grass lawns, dry silicate lawns, small bodies of water, poor meadows, poor pastures, Calluna heaths and broom heaths.

The NSG is grazed with around 350 sheep and a few goats from the Küthe sheep farm . The sheep are mostly Merinoland sheep as well as some Schwarzkopf sheep . Some grassland areas are also mowed to produce winter fodder for the flock of sheep. In the winter of 2014/15 a demilitarized Leopard 1 tank rummaged over parts of the Trupbacher Heide in order to create new space for pioneer plants and animal species such as plants, amphibians and insects that were not competitive.

The Freudenberg landscape plan writes about the entire Trupbacher Heide: “Due to its special species inventory with a high proportion of RL species, the area in the district is unique and of supraregional importance. This applies to both flora and fauna. ”In the entire area of the heath, 89 breeding bird species, 42 butterfly species and 397 different plant species were detected. The woodlark population in the heather comprised 20 breeding pairs in 1999. Other breeding bird species are tree pipit, blackcatcher, skylark, red-backed shrimp, wryneck and meadow pipit.

Land owner

On April 17, 2015, the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation became the owner of Trupbacher Heide . On this day, Federal Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks , NRW Environment Minister Johannes Remmel , Axel Kunze, board member of the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA) and NRW Foundation President Harry Kurt Voigtsberger signed a corresponding framework agreement. At the suggestion of NRW four properties of were National Heritage (NNE) federally owned by a decision of the German Bundestag to the NRW Foundation transferred. These were the former military training areas Trupbacher Heide , Drover Heide in the Düren district and Steinheide in the Rhein-Erft district and the red beech forests below the Steigenberger Grand Hotel on the Petersberg in Königswinter .
