The Lennestau nature reserve in Werdohl-Lengelsen / Wilhelmstal is a 13.3 hectare nature reserve (NSG) north of Werdohl in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated as a NSG by ordinance in 1986, 2000 and 2006 by the Arnsberg district government . The NSG is located east of the Wilhelmsthal hydropower station .

Area description

The NSG is the Lennestau Wilhelmstal with a length of around 800 m. The northern border of the area is formed by the federal highway 236 , on the southern edge of the area runs the Hagen – Siegen railway line .

In addition to the open water area of ​​the Lenne , the adjacent alluvial forest and Großseggenrieder belong to the NSG. The traffic jam is an important resting and feeding area for the migratory birds that rest and hibernate here . The traffic jam is also an important breeding ground for water birds .

tourism

There are no public roads through the protected area, and unauthorized persons are generally not allowed to enter it. However, views of the area are possible from the adjacent streets and paths, especially from the Lennebrücke between Lengelsen and Höllmecke. Water hikers are allowed to drive on the Lenne in the NSG, provided they do so quickly and only use the area on the right or northern bank (maximum 10 m distance from the bank).
