The Seffent nature reserve with Wilkensberg is located in the area of the city of Aachen bei Seffent .

description

The Wilkensberg is a slope that slopes 20 to 30 degrees to the south and south-west and has semi-arid grass between the old Melaten and Seffent farms. The soil here consists of shallow, easily heatable Kalkrendzina. The upper edge of the slope and the foot of the slope have species-rich tree and shrub plantations. On the top of the slope there is a mixed maple forest with a layer of herbs , rich in lianas and well structured. In the area of the middle foot of the slope opposite Seffent Castle, there is an enclosed spring basin, called Siebenquellen . The torrent rises here. An alder forest with hybrid poplars accompanies the stream. In the swamp floor there are oaks and hornbeams interspersed with swamp biotopes.

Protection purpose

For reasons of geography, science and geological history, and due to the rarity and peculiarity of the geological natural monument, the aim is to preserve the rich floodplain forest on the torrent with numerous sources, such as Siebenquellen , as well as the preservation of the valuable semi-arid grassy slope with special flora and fauna.
