The eponymous brook Uebach

The Uebachtal nature reserve covers around 16.9 hectares. It is located between Niederndorf and Oberschelden .

description

Most of the area is covered with forest. In the “center”, the valley, the small brook Uebach flows , which is gaining more and more volume due to the inflowing rivulets. The fields that it flows through have either been converted into wild meadows or are used for agriculture (only in the front, western part of the area). The fish ponds in the protected area should be kept as natural as possible. The forests consist mainly of mixed deciduous and Scots pine forests; spruce trees cover a larger area in the eastern reserve . The spruce area will, however, be reforested in the future so that it will also be covered with mixed deciduous forest as close to nature as possible. The trees in the area include Scots pine , English oak , European beech , birch , willow , spruce and alder . Most of the bushes include hazelnut ( common hazel ) and gorse bushes. The 16.9 hectare nature reserve was decided on December 18, 2003. It lies at an altitude between 280 and 350 meters above sea level. The aim is to preserve the near-natural ecosystem with the endangered animal and plant species indigenous there. In contrast to most of the other forests in the Siegerland , the Uebachtal was almost completely spared from hurricane Kyrill (January 18 and 19, 2007), only the spruce and pine areas suffered wind breaks .

fauna

The animals in the reserve include various reptiles such as grass snakes , forest lizards and, in very few places, adders, mammals are represented by red deer and fallow deer, wild boar , squirrels , mice , moles , martens and foxes . Of the numerous birds in the area, the blackbird , titmouse , great spotted woodpecker , kingfisher , dipper , magpie , jay , crows , thrush , robin , gray heron , buzzard , red kite and (more rarely) hawk and sparrowhawk can be seen. The arthropods include numerous types of dragonflies , innumerable beetles , a great many spiders and also hymenoptera , flies and woodlice . Amphibians are represented by common toads , tree frogs , agile frogs and salamanders , among others . The waters of the entire valley are important breeding areas for them. Several schools of brown trout live and breed in the stream .
